Engineering Director / Development Director / CTO
Wellington • Full-time
We are looking for a wonderful new Engineering Director / Development Director / CTO to lead our technology and development practices into our next chapter.
Ideally you'll be that rare person who balances deep technical credibility with a genuine love of leading, growing and inspiring people. We'd love your leadership skills to be complemented by a broad understanding of digital architectures, technologies and development best practices. More than anything, we're looking for someone who can inspire people, create clarity and help our team grow as technology continues to evolve.
At Alphero we're on an exciting journey towards our 2030 vision. Technology is changing faster than at any point in our careers, and we're looking for someone who is genuinely excited by that. You'll work alongside our CEO to ensure our technology direction is aligned with Alphero's broader business vision, helping shape the roadmap for our development practice and giving our team confidence about where we're heading and why.
Unlike many development leadership roles, our technology roadmap isn't driven by a single product. We work across multiple clients, sectors and digital programmes, all moving at different stages of digital maturity. That means anticipating where the market is heading, making thoughtful bets on the capabilities our clients will need next, and ensuring our people are ready before those opportunities arrive.
One of your most important responsibilities will be helping today's exceptional developers and QA specialists become tomorrow's intelligent digital technologists. You'll create an environment where people are excited about the future, understand the opportunities ahead, and have the support they need to continue growing throughout their careers.
You'll bring empathy, curiosity, a sense of humour and plenty of energy, balanced with pragmatism and sound judgement. As a member of our Senior Leadership Team you'll report directly to the CEO.
On a day-to-day basis you'll lead and grow our talented mobile, web and fullstack, cloud and QA teams. You'll understand our active and upcoming programmes of work, balancing priorities and capability to ensure we continue delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients. You'll collaborate closely with project managers, designers, QA and clients, while also supporting our sales team through pre-sales activities and providing strategic technical leadership where it's needed.
At Alphero our brand pillars run right through our business and guide everything we do: Inventive, Emotive and Brave. We hope they'll resonate with you too.
We'll empower you with significant autonomy to lead our development practice across four key areas of focus.
Technology Direction – Work with the CEO to evolve Alphero's technology roadmap in support of our broader business strategy. Stay ahead of emerging technologies, development practices and industry trends, translating them into practical capability for both our team and our clients.
Leadership: Provide clear, visible and inspiring leadership. Communicate a compelling direction for the practice, bring people with you through change, and create an environment where everyone understands how they contribute to Alphero's future.
Delivery: Champion modern development, architecture, QA and delivery practices while ensuring our teams consistently deliver exceptional digital products and services for our clients.
People: Recruit, coach and grow outstanding people. Build capability, support future leaders, and help our developers and QA specialists continue evolving as technology changes.
