Senior Digital Product Designer

About Alphero
Alphero is a digital agency on a mission to create and compose the intelligent digital experiences of the future. We partner with organisations across New Zealand, Australia and beyond to design and build digital products that matter. Many of the apps and services Kiwis use every day have our fingerprints on them.
We bring together strategists, designers, developers and testers to shape bold, meaningful products. Guided by our pillars Inventive, Emotive and Brave, we believe even the most complex, technology-forward experiences should still feel human.
As digital products become more adaptive, AI-driven and system-led, the role of design becomes more important, not less. Our job is to connect the heart and purpose of a brand to increasingly intelligent, composable technologies, and to create clarity and emotion in experiences that could otherwise feel abstract or technical.
Our design team spans brand, creative, motion, interaction design, UX/UI and service design. We work across mobile, wearables, web platforms, TV interfaces and emerging agentic experiences.
Your role
We’re looking for a Senior Digital Product Designer who is confident in owning complex product design from end to end.
At times you may be the sole designer working on one of our product deliveries. At other times you will be part of a broader multi-disciplinary design (and developer) group shaping large programmes together. Either way, you are accountable for the clarity, creativity and craft of what goes live.
This is a hands-on role for someone who loves designing real products. You will undertake user research, shape user journeys, solve messy interaction challenges, craft elegant interfaces and collaborate closely with engineers and QA to ensure the experience works beautifully in the real world.
You will be a strong critical thinker who wants to grow your strategic capability. Storytelling, narrative and the ability to inspire and persuade are important at this level. You will help clients and teams understand not just what we are designing, but why it matters. We will support you in developing these muscles further.
We are intentionally pushing the creative edge of digital product. That might mean exploring when to follow conventions and when to break them. It might mean simplifying highly complex systems into experiences that feel effortless. It might mean designing for emerging AI and agentic interactions in ways that still feel grounded in brand, purpose and human need.
You should be deeply grounded in the digital experiences of today and genuinely curious (and excited) about where they are heading.
Your focus areas
- Designing meaningful digital products - Owning major features or entire product areas and translating complexity into intuitive flows, interactions and high-quality UI. Ensuring the brand’s personality and purpose are present in the experience, not just the interface.
- Creative exploration and critical thinking - Contributing to how we push digital products forward. Exploring new interaction models, AI-enhanced experiences, and ways to create simplicity for users while underlying systems become more complex.
- Communication, narrative and influence. Explaining your thinking clearly, facilitating workshops where needed, and helping clients and teams feel confident in the direction. Growing your ability to shape experience strategy, not just execute it.
- Delivery and collaboration - Working closely with users, product owners, developers, testers, PMs and client stakeholders to bring clarity to ambiguity and ensure the final product is coherent, accessible and beautifully executed
