Senior Web Developer (ReactJS / Typescript)

WellingtonFull-time

The background

Alphero is a digital agency working with businesses big and small across New Zealand, to build digital services that make a difference for all of Aotearoa. You’ll find we’re behind many of the apps and sites you already know well.

We use fresh, modern, reusable code bases and strategic architecture to future-proof our solutions, all while ensuring that accessibility and security are baked in at every level. Our talented and dedicated devs ensure we are able to deliver on the bold and inventive digital experiences that we envision. They take pride in producing rock-solid, high-quality products at pace, with design vision brought to life to the nearest pixel.

The Job

We are looking for a super-solid senior full-stack developer to come join the Alphero team.

Being part of an agency (that builds products) means you’ll get to be involved in the full lifecycle - from architecture to continuous delivery and releases.

You’ll be working on really interesting projects from cutting edge health technology, to online self-service channels, and new digital products.

We are looking for warm, collaborative, curious people who love to code. As a Senior you will be hands-on coding and leading work-streams, contributing to products that deliver genuinely impactful outcomes. While working with clients and taking pride in the elegance and quality of your code, and love for continuously improving it as you go.

As a full-stack developer you will be confident from the HTML/CSS and ReactJS front-end of a web application, through to implementation of Typescript backends (including APIs) on AWS. You may skew more overtly to the back of the tech stack - but can still hold your own from user interface to API.

You’ll actively enjoy being part of a supportive team of colleagues and clients, and understand the value of sparking ideas by working collaboratively in person. At the same time, we absolutely support flexible and hybrid working for balance.

Working in a consulting business means good communication is vital, but you can do this in your own style. You might be a quiet presence or a more extrovert type - either is great!

At Alphero, we have three key pillars that run right through our business. They are: Inventive, Emotive and Brave. Our whole organisation gets behind these and you will be collaborating with strategists and designers who produce beautiful concepts for spectacular products and experiences that you will help bring to life.

Your focus areas

  • Owning a work-stream and contributing to the architecture and delivery of exceptional products for our clients. There will also be opportunities to deepen your architecture skills, grow your knowledge of cloud services, leverage AI and machine learning, and create gorgeous user interfaces.
  • Collaborating with our inventive designers, and eagle-eyed testers to create outstanding online experiences for users. You will have an eye for what good web UX/UI looks like, and you will care about building equitable and accessible products.
  • Supporting the continual growth and improvement of the wider development practice at Alphero: from keeping across technology evolution's to mentoring junior devs.

The key ‘doing’ skills in this role are: the creation of understandable, supportable code; experience working on all the layers of an application; and care for the security and privacy of the user's data. If you have some gaps, that’s OK, there’s an opportunity to learn - both technical skills and consulting and leadership.

We’re looking for people with 5-10+ years experience and you may have come from a client or an agency background. At the backend we’d love to see plenty of experience with Typescript/Javascript in NodeJS, cloud technology frameworks such as (or equivalent to) AWS API Gateways, building Lambdas (using Typescript / NodeJS), AWS CDK, DynamoDB, AWS Aurora (PostgresSQL), Cloud-front and S3.  Ideally you have experience with ReactJS and NextJS at the frontend, and can make your user interfaces look awesome with things like CSS-in-JS, framer-motion and Lottie. To make us extra happy you may bring us experience with headless CMS implementations!

This role is in-office or hybrid based in Wellington. We are keeping this search focused on New Zealand based people, with visas.
